Attention Homeschoolers: Are you dealing with Homeschool Burnout?
When you made the decision to homeschool your children, you decided to add on the responsibility of being a teacher on top of the responsibility you already hold as a parent. Although this is no easy task, you definitely had a long list of good reasons why you chose this lifestyle and for the most part you probably enjoy teaching your kids and holding the reigns of their education in your hands. But every homeschooling parent knows that once in a while you are bound to hit homeschool burnout.
Homeschool burnout can occur for many reasons. Sometimes it stems from changed circumstances, whether it’s a new baby, an illness or other unexpected events, and these changes create stress in our lives. The stress inevitably affects your homeschooling responsibilities. The smart thing to do is to recognize that you are going through a difficult time and accept the fact that you need a break. There is nothing wrong with taking a break even if it’s from your own children. In fact, most often breaks help us refresh our enthusiasm and motivation and return to our responsibilities with new energy.
An effective way to deal with homeschool burnout is to ask those around you for help. Perhaps your spouse or family member can take over a couple of subjects. You can even hire a tutor if need be. Also, don’t forget that homeschool parenting groups are often a great place to find support, advice and a even a helping hand when you are experiencing homeschool burnout.
